Posters

The Museum's fascinating flagship graphic collection includes more than 500 insurance-themed posters. They represent another, undoubtedly less conformist, aspect of the insurance phenomenon and tell its more recent story.

The advertising poster not only has an informative function, as had the shouts and proclamations of the early 19th century of which the Museum possesses a few examples, but also takes on testimonial value in the history of the figurative arts and in the history of costume. In the former, because artists of great renown have ventured into poster graphics and, in the latter, because, while it remains an ephemeral protagonist of reality, it has such an immediate and unscrupulous relationship with it that it succeeds, through the evolution of the message, in documenting the development of the insurance industry very effectively .

In addition to Italy and France (the success of this form of advertising was considerable in these two nations), the collection includes posters from various countries, from nearby Switzerland to faraway Asia, via the United States, Canada and Russia.

Completing the collection are numerous calendars, almanacs, and letter carriers: nice, colorful gifts that companies offered to their customers.

In 2019 - with the contribution of the Lombardy Region - the cataloging project in the SIRBeC (Sistema Informativo Regionale dei Beni Culturali) was launched.

Recently, the Museum participated in the third SIRBeC Conference organized by Regione Lombardia - Direzione Autonomia e Cultura and dedicated to cultural heritage, this year focusing on digital enhancement and promotion initiatives. Click here to download the pdf of the presentation.
